Ignacy Chodźko (1794–1861)

Chodźko, Ignacy (ċhōds’kō). A Polish poet and sketch-writer; born in Zabloczyzna, Jan. 15, 1794; died there, Aug. 1, 1861. He first attempted odes in the classical style; but subsequently produced ‘Lithuanian Pictures’ (1840–62) and ‘Lithuanian Traditions’ (1852–58), vivid prose sketches of manners and people, portraying especially the Lithuanian nobility of the eighteenth century.
