Louis François Nicolaie Clairville (1811–1879)

Clairville, Louis François Nicolaie (klār-vēl’). A French writer of light comedy (1811–79); born at Lyons. Author of more than 220 comedies, farces, and comic-opera libretti. Among his most successful operettas are: ‘Daphnis and Chloe’ (1849); ‘Mme. Angot’s Daughter’ (1873); among his vaudevilles: ‘Property is Robbery’ (1848); ‘Antoinette’s Temptations’ (1850); ‘Cinderella’ (1866).
