Isaäc da Costa (1798–1860)

Costa, Isaäc da (kos’tä). A Dutch poet (1798–1860); born at Amsterdam. Among his works, which rank among the best specimens of modern Dutch poetry, may be cited: ‘Prometheus’ (1820); ‘Festival Songs’ (1828); ‘Five-and-Twenty Years,’ a great poetico-historical work (1840); ‘Hagar’ (1847); and ‘The Battle of Nieuwpoort’ (1859). He wrote also some theological tractates.
