Joanna Courtmans (1811–1890)

Courtmans, Joanna Desideria (kört’mäns). A Flemish poet and novelist (1811–90). Besides dramas and poems, she wrote 22 volumes of stories. She excels particularly in her descriptions of the life of the common people. The most notable of her tales are: ‘The Hunter’s Gift’; ‘Dame Daneel’; ‘The Cowherd’; ‘Aunt Clara’s Bonnet.’
