Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon (1674–1762)

Crébillon, Prosper Jolyot de (krā-bĕ-yô‘). A noted French dramatist; born at Dijon, Jan. 13, 1674; died in Paris, June 14, 1762. His plays include: ‘The Death of Brutus’s Children’; ‘Idomeneus’ (1705); ‘Atreus and Thyestes’ (1707); ‘Electra’ (1708); ‘Rhadamistus and Zénobia’ (1711); ‘Xerxes’ (1714); ‘Semiramis’ (1717); ‘Pyrrhus’ (1726); ‘Catalina’ (1748); etc. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
