Vladimir Ivanovitch Dal’ (1801–1872)

Dahl or Dal, Dalj, Vladimir Ivanovitch (däl). A Russian story-writer and etymologist; born in Lugan, Nov. 22, 1801; died in Moscow, Oct. 4, 1872. He wrote many powerful realistic tales, besides an ‘Expository Dictionary of the Living Russian Languages’ (1861–68) and a dictionary of proverbs.
