Carl Ferdinand Allen (1811–1871)

Allen, Carl Ferdinand. A Danish historian; born at Copenhagen, April 23, 1811; died there, Dec. 27, 1871. He became professor of history and northern archæology at the University of Copenhagen in 1862. His principal works, ‘Handbook of the History of the Fatherland’ (1840), very democratic in tone, and ‘History of the Three Northern Kingdoms’ (1864–72), produced a marked impression, as did also minor writings relating to Schleswig.
