Rebecca Harding Davis (1831–1910)

Davis, Rebecca (Harding). An American novelist; born in Washington, PA, June 24, 1831; died at Mt. Kisco, NY, Sept. 29, 1910. She contributed many short stories and sketches to periodicals, and wrote several novels, including: ‘Life in the Iron Mills’ (1861); ‘A Story of To-day’ (1861), published later under the title ‘Margaret Howth’; and ‘A Law Unto Herself’ (1878); ‘Waiting for the Verdict’; ‘Dallas Galbraith’; ‘Natasqua’; ‘Frances Walstrup’; ‘Dr. Wafrick’s Daughters’ (1896); ‘Bits of Gossip’ (1904).
