Thomas Day (1748–1789)

Day, Thomas. An English poet and prose-writer; born in London, June 22, 1748; died on Sept. 28, 1789. He was an ardent sympathizer with the American patriots. Among his works are: ‘The Devoted Legions,’ a poem against the war with America (1776); ‘The Desolation of America’; ‘Letters of Marius’ (1784). He is the author of the celebrated ‘History of Sanford and Merton.’
