Bernal Díaz del Castillo (1496–1584)

Diaz del Castillo, Bernal (dē’äth del käs-tēl’yō). A Spanish chronicler of the conquest of Mexico; born in 1496; died in Mexico in 1584. His ‘True History of the Discovery and Conquest of New Spain’ was published at Madrid in 1632. He had little literary skill and no scientific knowledge; but he was an effective story-teller.
