Holger Drachmann (1846–1908)
Drachmann, Holger (dräċh’män). A Danish poet and novelist; born at Copenhagen, Oct. 9, 1846; died on Jan. 14, 1908. He was essentially an improvisatore; and his works show a lively fancy, and excel in descriptions of the life of the common people, especially fishermen and mariners. His ‘Poems’ appeared in 1872. His novels are ‘Condemned’ and ‘Once upon a Time.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
