Durante Duranti (1718–1780)
Duranti, Durante, Count (dö-rän’tē). An Italian poet and orator (1718–80); born at Brescia. Among his poetical writings, the best is the didactic poem ‘Use,’ in which he portrays his hero in the three periods of bachelor, husband, and widower. He wrote two tragedies, ‘Virginia’ (1764) and ‘Attilius Regulus’ (1771); and a volume, ‘Rime,’ containing miscellaneous verse.
