Alexandre Duval (1767–1842)

Duval, Alexandre (dü-väl’). A French dramatist (1767–1842); born at Rennes. He served in the French fleet during the American Revolutionary War. The best of his plays are: ‘Edward in Scotland’; ‘The Domestic Tyrant’; ‘The Chevalier of Industry.’ He wrote the text of the very successful opera ‘Joseph in Egypt.’
