Peter Joseph Elvenich (1796–1886)

Elvenich, Peter Joseph (el’vān-īċh). A German Catholic philosopher; born in Embken, Jan. 29, 1796; died in Breslau, June 16, 1886. He is easily first among the champions of the movement known as Hermesianism, after George Hermes, its founder; and wrote: ‘Pius IX., the Hermesians, and Archbishop von Geissel’ (1848); ‘The Infallible Pope’ (1875); and other polemics.
