William English (d. 1778)

English, William. An Irish poet; born in Newcastle, Limerick (?); died at Cork, Jan. 13, 1778. His themes were those of humble life; the well-known ballad ‘Cashel of Munster’ is a fine specimen of Gaelic vernacular.
