Jean Charles Marie Expilly (1814–1886)

Expilly, Jean Charles Marie (ex-pēl-ē’). A French novelist and historian; born in Salon, Bouches-du-Rhône, Sept. 8, 1814; died at Tain, Drôme, Feb. 12, 1886. He spent much time in South America, and wrote: ‘The Truth concerning the Conflict involving Brazil, Buenos Ayres, Montevideo, and Paraguay in Presence of Civilization’ (1866); ‘The Political and Commercial Consequences of the Opening of the Amazon’ (1869); and several novels, including ‘The Black Pirate’ (1838) and ‘The Sword of Damocles’ (1843).
