Louis-Xavier Eyma (1816–1876)

Eyma, Louis-Xavier (ī-mä’). A French writer; born in St. Pierre, Martinique, West Indies, Oct. 16, 1816; died in Paris, March 29, 1876. After a tour through the United States, he returned to France and published several works of which the best known are: ‘Les Femmes du Nouveau-Monde’ (1853); ‘Les Peaux Rouges’ (1854); ‘Les Peaux Noires’ (1856); ‘La République Americaine: Ses Institutions; ses Hommes’ (2 vols., 1861); ‘La Chasse à l’Esclave’ (1866); and many novels.
