Hannah Webster Foster (1759–1840)

Foster, Hannah (Webster). An American novelist; born in 1759; died at Montreal, Canada, April 17, 1840. Her published works are: ‘The Coquette, or the History of Eliza Wharton,’ one of the earliest of American novels; ‘The Boarding School’ (1796); and ‘Lessons of a Preceptress’ (1798).
