Antonio Carlo Napoleone Gallenga (1810–1895)
Gallenga, Antonio Carlo Napoleone (gälleng’gä). An Italian publicist and author; born in Parma, Nov. 4, 1810; died at Llandogo, Wales, Dec. 17, 1895. He was long the London Times’s special correspondent in Italy. His works, many of them issued under the name of “Mariotti,” include: ‘Italy, Past and Present’ (1841–49); ‘Castellamonte, an Autobiography’ (1854); ‘Mariotti’s Italian Grammar,’ which went through twelve editions; ‘History of Piedmont’ (1855–56); ‘The Pearl of the Antilles’ (1873); and several books of travel.
