Hermann von Gilm (1812–1864)

Gilm zu Rosenegg, Hermann von (gilm tsö rōz’en-eg”). A German lyric poet; born in Innsbruck, Nov. 1, 1812; died at Linz, May 31, 1864. Of liberal tendencies in religion and politics, and enthusiastic in the cause of the Tyrolese, he wrote: ‘Sonnets from Tyrol’ and ‘Songs of the Natter Maids,’ which achieved success. Other poems by him did much to maintain among the Tyrolese the spirit that prompted their uprising for independence in 1809.
