John Richard Green (1837–1883)

Green, John Richard. An English clergyman and historian; born in Oxford, 1837; died at Mentone, France, March 7, 1883. He ruined his health and died early through fiery zeal in work among the London poor; much of his vast research and his writing were done in bed. The ‘Short History of the English People,’ ‘The Making of England,’ and ‘The Conquest of England’ are his most important works. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
