Hugo Grotius (1583–1645)

Grotius, Hugo. A famous Dutch jurist and scholar; born at Delft, April 10, 1583; died at Rostock, Aug. 29, 1645. His treatise ‘On the Law of War and Peace’ made him the founder of the modern science of international law. He was also the author of important historical works and Biblical commentaries.
