Alfred Hartmann (1814–1897)

Hartmann, Alfred (härt’män). A Swiss author; born, Jan. 1, 1814, near Langenthal, Bern; died on Dec. 10, 1897. For many years he published a comic periodical called Postheiri. His chief works are the romance ‘Master Putsch and his Companions’ (1858); ‘Martin Disteli’ (1861), a biography; ‘Gallery of Famous Swiss’ (1863–71); ‘Tales from the Swiss’ (1863); ‘Swiss Tales’ (1877); ‘Fortunatus.’
