Ludwig Helmbold (1532–1598)

Helmbold, Ludwig (helm’bōld). A German hymn-writer; born in Mühlhausen, Thuringia, Jan. 21, 1532; died there, April 12, 1598. He wrote sacred songs in Latin and German, the best in the latter tongue. Those beginning “Lord Jesus Christ, Thou prince of peace” and “I will not give God up” are most widely known.
