Emanuel Hiel (1834–1899)
Hiel, Emanuel (hēl). A Flemish poet; born in St. Gilles dez Termonde, Belgium, May 31, 1834; died on Aug. 27, 1899. His poem ‘The Wind’ won a prize, while ‘Lucifer’ and ‘The Scheldt’ rank high in popular esteem. His poems for children and one or two oratorios and dramatic compositions are especially notable.
