Jefferson, Thomas. An American statesman of the first rank and fame; born at Shadwell, VA, April 2, 1743; died at Monticello, VA, July 4, 1826. The Declaration of Independence is the production of his pen; and he was author of ‘Notes on Virginia,’ ‘Autobiography,’ and ‘Correspondence.’ ‘Complete Works,’ 10 vols., 1892.
