Benjamin Parke Avery (1828–1875)

Avery, Benjamin Parke. An American journalist and diplomatist; born in New York City in 1828; died in Peking, China, Nov. 8, 1875. He went to California in 1849 and became a journalist. From 1874 to 1875 he was minister to China. His chief work is ‘Californian Pictures in Prose and Verse’ (1877).
