Ernest Lavisse (1842–1922)

Lavisse, Ernest (lä-vēs’). A French historian; born at Nouvion-en-Thiérache, Dec. 17, 1842; died in 1922. His historical researches have chiefly to do with Prussia and the German Empire, as in ‘The Mark of Brandenburg under the Ascanian Dynasty’ (1875); ‘Studies of the History of Prussia’ (1879); ‘Frederick the Great before his Accession’ (1893); ‘Three Emperors of Germany: William I., Frederick III., William II.’ (1888); ‘Outlines of Europe’s Political History.’
