Delia Bacon (1811–1859)

Bacon, Delia. An American writer (1811–59), daughter of Leonard Bacon. She is best remembered for her ‘Philosophy of the Plays of Shakespeare’ (1857); to which Nathaniel Hawthorne (without concurring) wrote a preface, and which brought into prominence the Bacon-Shakespeare controversy.
