Charles Joseph, Prince de Ligne (1735–1814)

Ligne, Charles Joseph, Prince de (lēn). A Belgian soldier and miscellaneous writer; born at Brussels, May 12, 1735; died on Dec. 13, 1814. He wrote: ‘Military, Literary, and Sentimental Miscellanies’ (3 vols., 1795–1811); ‘Life of Prince Eugene of Savoy’ (2 vols., 1809). From his correspondence, journals, etc., Mme. de Staël compiled two volumes of ‘Letters and Thoughts’ (1809).
