Joseph Johann von Littrow (1781–1840)

Littrow, Joseph Johann von (lit’trou). An Austrian astronomer; born at Bischofsteinitz in Bohemia, March 13, 1781; died on Nov. 30, 1840. By his writings and public lectures he contributed largely to the diffusion of astronomical knowledge in Austria. His chief works are: ‘Theoretic and Practical Astronomy’ (2 vols., 1821); ‘Wonders of the Heavens’ (1834); ‘Atlas of the Starry Heavens’ (1838).
