David Ross Locke (1833–1888)

Locke, David Ross [“Petroleum V. Nasby”]. An American satirist; born in Vestal, NY, Sept. 20, 1833; died in Toledo, OH, Feb. 15, 1888. He gained celebrity as the author of the widely known ‘Nasby Letters’ on politics, and produced many pamphlets on literary, political, and social topics. Among his publications are: ‘The Moral History of America’s Life Struggle’; ‘The Morals of Abou ben Adhem, or Eastern Fruit in Western Dishes.’
