Catharine Macaulay (1731–1791)

Macaulay, Catharine, Mrs. (Sawbridge). An English historian; born in Kent, 1731; died on June 22, 1791. She is best known by her ‘History of England’ (8 vols., 1763–83). Her ‘History of England from the Revolution’ (1778) was called “the republican history of England,” and was severely criticized. Only one volume appeared.
