Julie de Marguerittes (1814–1866)

Marguerittes, Julie de (mär-ger-ēt’). An English dramatic critic; born in London in 1814; died in Philadelphia, June 21, 1866. After successfully appearing in the opera of ‘La Gazza Ladra’ both in New York and Philadelphia, she retired from the stage and became the dramatic critic of the Philadelphia Sunday Transcript. She was a voluminous writer for the press. Among her books are: ‘The Inns and Outs of Paris’ (1855); ‘Italy and the War of 1859’ (1859); and ‘Parisian Pickings.’
