Antoine de Montchrestien (c. 1575–1621)

Montchrestien, Antoine de (mô-krā-tya‘). A French poet, dramatist, and political economist; born at Falaise, Normandy, about 1575; died near Domfront, Oct. 1621. His life was adventurous and romantic. He wrote a work on political economy (he is said to have been the first to introduce the term into French); several poems, and seven tragedies possessing merit.
