Arthur Morrison (1863–1945)
Morrison, Arthur. An English writer of fiction; born in 1863; died in 1945. During his employment and residence for some years as secretary of a Charity Trust in the East End of London, he made a study of life in the slums, which he has reproduced in his powerful ‘Tales of Mean Streets’ (1895), and ‘The Child of the Jago’ (1896). A volume of detective stories, entitled ‘Martin Hewitt, Investigator,’ appeared in 1896; ‘The Hole in the Wall’ (1902); ‘Green Ginger’ (1909); and several plays.
