Johannes von Müller (1752–1809)

Müller, Johannes von (mül’ler). A Swiss historian; born at Schaffhausen, Jan. 3, 1752; died at Cassel, Prussia, May 29, 1809. He held a number of positions in the service of Mainz, Austria, and Prussia, and when he died was director-general of education in the kingdom of Westphalia. His principal works were: ‘History of the Swiss’ (new ed. 5 vols., 1786–1808), and ‘24 Books of Universal History’ (3 vols., 1811; new ed. 1852).
