Jan Neruda (1834–1891)

Néruda, Jan (nyer-ö’dä). A Czech poet; born in Prague, July 10, 1834; died there, Aug. 22, 1891. He was noted in periodical journalism; while as a poet he is distinguished for his ‘Book of Verse’ (1867), ‘Cosmic Songs’ (2d ed. 1878), and various plays, including ‘Francesca da Rimini.’ His ‘Humble Histories’ (1878), a series of sketches of Czech life, attained great popularity.
