Pedro de Oña (1570?–1643?)

Oña, Pedro de (ōn’yä). A Chilian poet; born in Confines, Araucania, about 1570; died in Lima about 1643. His great work ‘Arauco Domado’ (Conquered Chili: 1596) consisted of nineteen cantos. He also wrote a poem ‘The Lima Earthquake of the Year 1609’; several sonnets; and a heroic poem, ‘Ignacio de Cantabria’ (1639).
