Paulus Orosius (Fifth Century)

Orosius, Paulus (ō-rō’si-us). A Latin historian and theologian; born in Spain, probably at Tarragona, at the beginning of the fifth century A.D. He wrote a ‘History of the World directed against Pagans’ (in seven books), from the beginning of the world to the author’s time, especially to disprove the assertions of pagan historians that the calamities of Rome, such as the invasions of the barbarians, were due to Christianity. It was translated into English by King Alfred.
