Thomas Paine (1737–1809)

Paine, Thomas. A celebrated American publicist; born at Thetford in Norfolkshire, England, Jan. 29, 1736/7; died at New Rochelle, NY, June 8, 1809. He wrote: ‘Common Sense’ (1776); ‘The Rights of Man’ (2 vols., 1790); ‘The Age of Reason’ (1793); ‘Decline and Fall of the English System of Finance’ (1796).
