José Maria de Pereda (1833–1906)

Pereda, José Maria de (per-ā’dä). A Spanish story-writer; born at Polanco, near Santander, Feb. 7, 1833; died on March 2, 1906. He wrote many charming descriptions of life in rural Spain and in Madrid. Among his stories are: ‘Sotileza’ (1888); ‘Don Gonzalo Gonzalez de la Gonzalera’ (1889); ‘La Puchera’; ‘La Montalvez.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
