Antonio Pérez (1540–1611)

Pérez, Antonio (pā’rāth). A Spanish statesman and historian; born in 1540; died at Paris, 1611. His principal work is ‘Relations of Antonio Perez, Secretary of State of Philip II.’ (1589). As revealing the secrets of Philip II.’s life as a king and a man, it had a wide circulation: from this work was made up a volume of ‘Aphorisms of Antonio Perez’; also a volume of ‘Noteworthy Passages Taken from the Writings of Don Antonio Perez’ (1602).
