Pherecrates (Fourth Century B.C.)

Pherecrates (fer-ē-krā’tēz). A Greek comic poet of the fourth century B.C., contemporary of Cratinus, Crates, and Aristophanes. Of his works fragments only remain; among them an ‘Address to Old Age,’ preserved by Stobæus. He is variously stated to have written 18 or 16 plays.
