George Ripley (1802–1880)

Ripley, George. An American scholar and editor; born at Greenfield, MA, Oct. 3, 1802; died in New York City, July 4, 1880. He was the founder and editor of the Dial, and contributed to many journals; was one of the projectors of Brook Farm and the literary critic of the New York Tribune. He left no extended work, and will be remembered rather as a promoter of learning.
