John Codman Ropes (1836–1899)

Ropes, John Codman. An American lawyer and military historian; born at Petrograd, April 28, 1836; died in Boston, Oct. 27, 1899. Besides contributions to the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts and to periodicals, he wrote: ‘The Army under Pope’ (1881); ‘The First Napoleon’ (1885); ‘The Campaign of Waterloo’; and ‘The Story of the Civil War.’
