Maximilian Gottfried von Schenkendorf (1783–1817)
Schenkendorf, Max von (shenk’en-dorf). A German poet; born at Tilsit, Dec. 11, 1783; died on Dec. 11, 1817. A lawyer, he joined the Prussian army in 1813, and with his stirring war-songs inspired his comrades. His ‘Gedichte’ (1815) is a collection of these songs.
