Heinrich Schliemann (1822–1890)

Schliemann, Heinrich (shlē’män). A German archæologist; born at Neubuckow in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Jan. 6, 1822; died at Naples, Dec. 26, 1890. His celebrated archæological explorations and excavations at the sites of Troy, Mycenæ, Orchomenos, Tiryns, and other ancient Hellenic cities, are recorded in ‘Mycenæ’ (1877); ‘Ilios’ (1880); ‘Orchomenos’ (1881); ‘Troja’ (1883); ‘Tiryns’ (1886); ‘Report on the Excavations at Troy’ (1890); ‘Autobiography’ (1891).
