Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827)

Beethoven, Ludwig van (bā’tō-ven). A German composer of Dutch extraction; born at Bonn, 1770; died at Vienna, 1827. His music is world-famous. In his ‘Correspondence’ and in the noted ‘Brentano Letters’ he is a writer of personal impressions of great interest and charm. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
