John Lancaster Spalding (1840–1916)

Spalding, John Lancaster. An American prelate of the Catholic Church, titular archbishop of Scyphopolis; born in Lebanon, KY, June 2, 1840; died on Aug. 25, 1916. Besides ‘Essays and Reviews’ (1876), he published a ‘Life of Archbishop Spalding’ (1872); ‘Religious Mission of the Irish People’ (1880); ‘Lectures and Discourses’ (1882); ‘America, and Other Poems’; ‘The Poet’s Praise’; ‘Education and the Higher Life’; ‘Songs, Chiefly from the German’; ‘Socialism and Labor’; and ‘Religion and Art.’
